Helen Baker, a volunteer at Washington County Department of Social Services was recently honored by the Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism in Annapolis, MD for her contribution to the WCDSS Child Support Enforcement Division.

Ms. Baker began her service with the Washington County Department of Social Services in 2001 as part of the Department of Aging Senior Community Service Employment Program. In October 2013, she was no longer eligible for compensation through this program and asked if she could continue her previous duties as a volunteer.

Her duties are focused on the Child Support Division where she assists in identifying cases to be reviewed and approved, greets and escorts customers and much more. In nominating Ms Baker, Barbara J. Moyer, Assistant Director of the Child Support Division stated “Helen’s volunteerism is an awesome reminder that the work we do is not a job, it is a service!”

Ms. Baker volunteers approximately 15 hours per week and is always flexible with scheduling. She arrives early and often stays beyond the end of her normal shift. She brings cheer and a positive attitude to her co-workers.

David A. Engle, WCDSS Director stated “her service is a positive contribution to the Washington County Child Support program that provides services to approximately 6,000 Maryland citizens.”
