KENT COUNTY DSS DONATES 122lbs OF FOOD TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY

On October 4, the Kent County Department of Social Services donated 122 pounds of food to Kent County’s Community Food Pantry in support of Governor Martin O’Malley’s Day of Service. Governor O’Malley officially declared September 29, 2012 an interfaith Day of Service, calling on all Marylanders to engage in community service projects focused on ending hunger and protecting the environment.  The Kent County Department of Social Services hosted an employee food drive donating healthy, non-perishable food items  the local Community Food Pantry.  The Community Food Pantry serves an average of 219 families per month and distributed almost 128,000 pounds of food last year.  For every five pounds of food donated, the Kent County Community Food Pantry can provide four meals.  The donation of 122 pounds of food by the Kent County Department of Social Services will provide approximately 98 meals to Kent County families.
