Join the Team: Domestic Violence Hotline is Seeking Volunteers
Baltimore County, Maryland — Every nine seconds in the United States, a woman is assaulted or beaten. Today, however, there are a number of resources available to help those in need. The Baltimore/Carroll Counties Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Hotline is one such resource and can provide referrals to counseling, advocacy and shelter. Volunteers are desperately needed to help staff the daytime shift for the hotline.
The Baltimore/Carroll Counties Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Hotline currently has 47 volunteers who cover four shifts: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., 1 to 6 p.m., 6 to 10 p.m. and 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. In 2014, the hotline received at total of 4,796 calls.
“Our volunteers are usually the first line of defense for women and men experiencing abuse,” said Tammy Cline, Hotline Coordinator. “Sometimes services are requested and other times, just a compassionate ear is needed. Right now, we need more volunteers to provide this life-saving help.”
If you are a good listener, want to make a difference and enjoy talking to people, consider becoming a hotline volunteer. Free training and materials will be provided.
