BALTIMORE – In preparation for hurricane season and the potential issues that can occur as a result of a natural disaster, the Department of Human Resource (DHR) will conduct its annual emergency functional exercise on Wednesday, May 11, 2011. The exercise will originate at the Ocean City Convention Center in Ocean City, Maryland.
Volunteers are needed to test Maryland’s evacuation plan. The exercise will emulate processes put into place to register evacuees, transport them out of Ocean City to a safe location and successfully keep track of them during the entire process. DHR is working with the Department of Transportation and several other state and local agencies on this effort. Volunteer registration for the event will begin at 9:30 a.m. and volunteers will be needed through 1 p.m. Refreshments will be provided for participants.
Volunteers are asked to contact Angela Bernstein in the Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives at 410-926-8956 or by email at abernstein@goci.state.md.us
