Charles Co. MD, July 24, 2012: The staff of the Charles County Department of Social Services were honored on July 24, 2012, with a $1500 check from the Reaching Out Now, Inc. organization, for its continued efforts to address the needs of vulnerable Charles County residents.
“Words cannot express our gratitude for Reaching Out Now’s generosity,” said Charles County Director Karen S. Butler, MSW. The donations will enable us to assist families with their most immediate needs. We are so grateful to the organization, and its sponsors, for the kindness and generosity extended to the families we serve.”
The employees of the Charles County Department of Social Services are committed to enhancing the lives of community residents. This spring, they helped low income food stamp recipients to purchase fresh vegetables and fruit from the local farmers’ market. In March 2012, the employees came to the aid of the community by launching an office-wide food drive to benefit the Southern Maryland Food Bank.
“We are truly pleased to present this monetary gift to the Charles County Department of Social Services for the direct benefit of our local families in need and children in Charles County public schools,” said Samantha Walker, president and founder of Reaching Out Now, Inc. As a result of the community and many corporate sponsors coming together to address a real and immediate need we raised approximately 20,000 pounds of food through direct donations and monetary contributions.”
The Charles County Department of Social Services is a field office of the Maryland Department of Human Resources (DHR) the state’s primary social service provider, serving over one million people annually. The Department, through its 24 local departments of social services, aggressively pursues opportunities to assist people in economic need, provide preventive services, and protect vulnerable children and adults in each of Maryland’s 24 counties.
