Charles County Department of Social Services Launches Clifford House of Hope: A New Resource for Out-of-Home Care

Charles County, MD – The Charles County Department of Social Services (CCDSS) proudly announces the Clifford House of Hope, a visitation community for families receiving services to develop essential life skills in a nurturing, home-like environment in White Plains, MD.

Clifford House of Hope fills a critical gap in support services by providing an authentic setting for families to practice parenting skills and for children to grow personally and academically. Unlike public environments such as state offices, Clifford House of Hope provides a supportive atmosphere where trained and dedicated social workers and community partners guide families through practical, everyday situations and tasks. During daytime business hours, families learn new skills that enhance parents’ ability to provide safe and loving care and help children practice skills needed for independent living.

At Clifford House of Hope, services include:

  • Supervised Family Visits and Skills Development: Safe, secure, neutral spaces for children to connect with their biological or adoptive parents to learn and practice skills that lead to better outcomes; we are supporting families as they develop parent-child relationships and practice everyday tasks like homework, chores, and routines that support academic performance and community involvement.
  • Independent Living Skills Training: Teaching children life skills like cooking, budgeting, home maintenance, laundry, and personal care.
  • Community Engagement: Opportunities for families to participate in local volunteer activities and build community.

The success of the Clifford House of Hope relies on community support, and we invite businesses and organizations to contribute through volunteering, donations, and partnership. Your support will help maintain this essential resource for families and children experiencing out-of-home care in Charles County.
